Teriyaki Chicken
Temp
Low
Sweet and tangy; we loved our first recipe, Teriyaki Chicken. It was the perfect meal to serve over a bed of rice, but we wish we would have added some broccoli in the mix! We thought this was such a great meal because the kids ate it up with no fuss, and the adults enjoyed it also! Pair a yummy, crowd-pleasing meal with the simplicity of slow cooking, and you have yourself a stress-free meal.

Stacey,
Maybe you can serve it with a side of mashed potatoes or seasoned roasted potatoes.

My hubby is more of a “meat and tators” kind of guy. What do you girls think of adding cubed potatoes to this recipe, or even substitue them for the carrots?
Sorry your chicken didn’t turn out well, Barbara. We specify “drained” pineapple in the video, but you’re right, it needs to be specified on the ingredients list. I’ll make that change now. Sorry :/ It really is yummy…hope you try it again.

I could not wait to try this recipe. Additional ingredients I used were chopped celery and sliced water chestnuts for some crunch. The recipe does not say to drain the pineapple, so I didn’t. What a waste of ingredients! Very little taste, overly watery, just plain blah. Tomorrow it goes in the dumpster.
Thanks Tella! You cRock!

I love all the comments. These comments have helped me make the meal more flavor oriented to my family. Ok here is what I did! I did all the above as the recipe called for whith the exception of a whole onion, and my homemade teriyaki sauce. I also used whole chicken thighs, cut up a green pepper, added some cracked black pepper and used one of those 60 second plain rice pouches and added that and frozen broccoli an hour before end cooking time. It was like a stir fry and was SUPER AWESOME!! Thanks Ladies and gentleman for all your comments!
YAY Betty!! You cROCK! SO what did you do to get perfect rice in the crock? We’re still experimenting with this one… :)

I’m doing a lot of experimenting these days with my crockpot. I’ve made perfect rice (by itself). Am thinking I’ll try this out with this one: make the rice as I normally do but prepare the teriyaki an aluminum foil wrap and put it in surrounded by the rice! I’ll let you know how it works out.
I’d be afraid the rice would get mushy. You can always do one of those microwave rice pouches for something quick.

Could rice be added to this recipe for an all-in-one complete meal? I am looking for recipes that are strictly one-step mix, go and serve.

I tried this and we all liked it…but next time I will make it without th onions all together…thanks for the neat recipe….:) happy crockin

(*) You know, some of these questions are hillarious. Like, how many servings will it make? Hahaha. That depends on how much you eat. Like ”me”, a jethro bowl is one serving.. And, my broccoli got soggy, how do i fix this. Personally, i like mine well cooked, but if it was too done for you, ”she” said you have to experiment. Put it in the last hour, because it is not one to be cooked long anyway. Im ”not” being a wise cracker. Its just funny, thats all. I mean a carrot needs to cook a while, but broccoli, just a bit. I love it. It taste like heaven. Thanks for the idea… (*)
Susan, that is one of many things on our to-do list. A lot of these recipes are from recipe swappin’ with friends and family and that kind of info isn’t usually included with the recipe. If a recipe calls for 4-6 chicken breast like this one does, I estimate that it will feed about 6-8 people. Glad you’re crockin with us!
Susan Kurta
why don’t you put how many swerving each recipe makes?
Great tips, Kristen! We dumped the whole can of pineapples and juice in the crock. We didn’t drain. And seasonings can make all the difference in a recipe. For this one you could add a little of any of these spices to give it a little kick: onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, ground or red pepper flakes. cRockin’ Roll!
Kathy Parker ~ slow cooker recipes, just like any other, need to be tweaked to your personal tastes. Definitely play around with the seasonings. I often have to replace spicy seasonings with something a little more mild.
As far as answering the posts, we’re starting to make that part of our routine. All this Crockin’ has just BLOWN UP and we’re trying our best to cover all the bases. Thanks for crockin’ with us and keep in touch!

I have to admit it was a little bland for my taste. My 15 year old loved it though. I used a yellow onion because that’s all I had. I added broccoli after 2 hours, but it was too soon as they were overcooked. I left the juice from the pineapples but probably should have only used 1/2 maybe. I was hoping that it was going to be sweeter. Maybe if I do it again I will add more teriyaki sauce. I did have 6 breasts cooking at once so I cooked it on high for 3 hours and then low for 3 more. I probably could have cooked it for an hour less. I also added one coarsely chopped Green bell pepper at the beginning, but should have added it 1/2 way through instead…. On another note, I’m wondering why no one responds to these posts? There were some very good questions on here that I would have liked to know the answers to prior to starting this recipe. Thanks ! =)
Kristin! That sounds delicious!

I have cooked this on low before and high , comes out great!

*If you add broccoli would you use frozen or fresh? How would you keep it from ending up being soggy?
Kathleen Quinn
I’m new to the crockpot world. Do I have to defrost the chicken first or can I just place the chicken breasts in frozen?
Elena Rushford
I cooked this on high for 6 hours. I drained the pineapple and added extra garlic, red and green peppers, and broccoli. I also used World Harbors Maui Mountain Teriyaki. It turned out great!!
I would suggest putting in the broccoli maybe half way through so it doesn’t get to soggy.

Cook on low for 8hrs. This is my fave ;)

*I’m with Nancy… how long and at what temp do you cook this?

I loved this dish! I left the juice in the pineapple and used a whole onion.

I find that using “Veri Veri Teriyaki” sauce makes any teriyaki dish delicious (though its a wee bit pricey). It has sesame seeds in it and also pairs great with a little bit of pineapple. Sometimes when I have more time to spare, I like to take the teriyaki sauce and maybe even steam it with vegetables, then I pour out the vegetables, and cook down the teriyaki sauce (with the juices left over from the steamed vegetables) until it thickens up a bit, sometimes I even add a little sugar to the mix, while I’m reducing the sauce. Then I take that drizzle and pour it over everything. Comes out great every time! Veggies like broccoli, baby carrots, peppers are all great to use and the juices give the sauce that extra bang!

Am I missing something here? How long do you cook this for and on Hi or Low?
Dawn Roscoe
I made this for my family & I have to say it was VERY bland. I drained the pineapple. I also added a bag of frozen broccoli to give it more veggies. It needs something…I am going to experiment with it – first pouring in all of the pineapple – juice & all. It’s a great recipe…easy to make, and my family loves asian style food, but like I said – it just needs something else to boost the flavor.
Anita Recksiedler
I don’t use bags of baby carrots, if I use real carrots how many and should I cut them bigger?
Lisa Krikke
Do you drain the canned pineapple?
