I cooked this for the first time today/tonight. Based on all of the comments I read I cooked it on high for 6 hours versus low for 8 hours (my crock pot runs 4 or 6 hours on high OR 8 or 10 hours on low) so I thought 6 hours would be best as 8 hours usually tends to make the chicken dry. I put the cup of water in first then 4 frozen breasts all about the same size and poured a bottle of the sauce over. I checked it around 6 hours and it looked done so I put it on warm until dinner. I think I should have just turned it off. Once again it seems my chicken was dry although I seemed to have a lot of liquid (and had an extra bottle of BBQ sauce just in case) Because of this I decided to mix it up a bit so I shredded the chicken and we had BBQ chicken sandwiches/sliders. Good alternative with the dry chicken. I have another crock pot and am going to try it again at some point in that one to see if the cooking times/temps vary and see how it comes out. I had planned to serve this with coleslaw and a few other things but the sandwiches were good and hit the spot despite the chicken being dry.

    Vanessa,
You will probably need to come off the time a bit so it does not dry out.

Does the size of the breast affect the cooking time? I have portion controlled breasts that tend to be smaller then regular breasts.

Sorry it came out dry. Try cooking it for about 6 hours and make sure there is liquid underneath the chicken as well.

I liked the idea of this but it came out very dry. I cooked it all day (8 hours) on low. Any suggestions? I would like to try this again if I could correct the problem.

Place some paper towels between the crock and the lid. The paper towels will catch all the moister from the lid, keeping it from going into your bbq sauce and making it runny….. hope this helps

This turned out perfect. It wasn’t watery at all. I shredded the chicken afterwards and poured the sauce all over the chicken, had it with mashed potatoes and it turned out very good. Another favorite recipe of mine.

I tried this one today…super easy and quick but it was watery. I think I expected a BBQ sauce feel to it. Chicken was super moist. Maybe I can just add extra sauce (warmed) on top of the chicken when I serve it. Thanks Ladies for sharing your recipes!

Try subbing 8 oz of Coke for the water. I mixed it with a regular size bottle of Sweet Baby Ray’s spicy BBQ sauce. It was great!! Did have to thicken the sauce slightly at the end.

    Emily,
It will be totally fine to use frozen chicken. Let us know how it turns out.

  16. Emily

I’m excited to try this one. Does the chicken need to be thawed out or would it be okay if it was frozen?
