Yummalicious Gameday Dip

Super easy and quick dip. Great for game day and only a few ingredients!

Prep Time 5 mins
Cook Time 4 hrs
Temp Low
Yield Serves 4-6

We had so much fun Crockin' with Internet sensation Sweet Brown! We made a simple recipe combining Sweet Brown's favorites - a cold pop (yes, we used a can of Sprite!) and BBQ Sauce! This makes a great any-day recipe combined with sweet potatoes!

Ingredients

  • 4-6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Lime juice, two limes
  • 1 1/2 Cups bottle barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 -3/4 Can Sprite

Directions

  1. Step One

Place chicken in the slow cooker. Add onions, lime juice, barbecue sauce, and sprite.

  2. Step Two

Cover and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours or until chicken is done.

Carole, diet soda would be fine.

Does it affect the outcome if diet soda is used?

This is very good!! I used Sweet Baby Ray BBQ sauce. I checked on this and thought the sauce was going to be too thin but it thickened up during the day. Really good!!

Loved this recipe. Have made it a few times now. The last time I made it, I shredded the chicken and kept only a cup of the sauce. The rest I tossed. Then, I added more BBQ sauce, the chicken and the 1 cup sauce I had saved. Mixed and cooked about 30 minutes more. DELICIOUS!!!!! And not soupy at all. Great on rolls. We made little sliders.

Erica, sorry girl it wasn’t what you had hoped for. Feel free to tweak it to how y’all like. You can also throw in more chicken to soak up some of the sauce.

First recipe I don’t like. Like the previous reviewers way too much liquid (not bbq sauce liquid, watery liquid). I tried only putting in 1/2 can of sprite but there is still way too much liquid. I think the liquid from Sprite and lime overwhelm the bbq flavor, becuase it doesn’t taste very bbq. I would use a slotted spoon to drain the liquid, but the bbq doesn’t “stick” to the chicken.

Good catch Wanetta!! You can just drizzle the inside of your crock with olive oil or spray with Pam. But it’s ok if you leave it out, too. We meant to say it in the video and forgot ;/

Lori…if it’s too much liquid for y’all, you can use a slotted spoon to let the sauce drain a bit from the chicken before you dish it out onto your buns.

    Happy Crockin’, Y’all!

I have a question, no one else seems to have asked. Where does the olive oil come in? The video mentions it in print, but no one in the video ever says to put it in, and the print recipe doesn’t list it at all. Did I miss something?

I had the same problem – too much liquid. After shredding and cooking a little longer – I even poured out some liquid and added additional bbq sauce and it was still too runny for our taste.

  10. Sweet Brown’s chicken looks great. I think all the kids in America are saying, “Ain’t nobody got time for dat!” right now. Even I’m saying it at 57 years old.

Glad you figured it out, Ross. Thanks for updating us. Maybe next time just use 1 cup of bbq sauce.

Ok after shredding and putting it back in the chicken absorbed a lot of the liquid. Still a little lose for what I like in a BBQ sandwich so I added a little flour and cooked on low for an hour and its perfect. Very yummy love the lime taste!

I just made this tonight. Not sure if I did something wrong but there is a ton of liquid. Is this the way its supposed to be? I followed the instructions exactly?

She is a hoot, Rochelle!! Our kiddos love to quote her, too. It’s so funny hearing, “Aint nobody got time for dat!” out of your babies mouths..LOL.

Oh Mary…we meant to drizzle the Olive Oil in the insert before we added the chicken, but forgot :0 It helps to keep the chicken from sticking to the insert, but it’s ok if you leave it out, too. You can just spray your insert with Pam. It’s all good.

And Diane…in Sweet Brown’s defense, we taped this over the holidays, but it didn’t air until after. She kept us laughing for sure!! SO fun!

Glad you enjoyed it and Happy Crockin’, y’all!

I’m gonna try this one. I just L.O.V.E Sweet Brown!!! Our soccer team has such a hoot on the sidelines quoting Sweet Brown. This video makes me smile, laugh, and schnort! Sweet Brown has put so many giggles and laughs into my life. I’m sure your special Sweet Brown BahBQ’in will be just superb. I always have chicken in my freezer, I’m gonna go grab some now and get out the crock!
Thanks for including Sweet Brown, ladies. Y’all sure know fun when ya hear/see it!

  16. Mary K.

Can’t wait to try this! ….I have a question: instructions say to add olive oil, but it’s not listed in ingredients and you didn’t add it in the video. I’m guessing it’s not used, but I wanted to double check. Thank you so much – love your cookbook and your website!

  17. Diane H.

I haven’t actually tried this yes (well, obviously, since the recipe just came out today! LOL!)… but loved the video!! I’m right there with Sweet Brown — “Ain’t it the holidays coming up?”! Hahaha… where did they go?? and it’s already 1/14?? anyway, yes, the hoildays went by MUCH too fast. I look forward to trying this recipe soon to see how tender & juicy that sprite makes the chicken!! :)
