Split Pea Soup – A great recipe for Split Pea Soup


  • 1 Package Split Peas, rinsed
  • 1 Leek, finely chopped (only white/yellow)
  • 3 Stalks of Celery, chopped
  • 3 Carrots, chopped
  • 3-4 Sprigs Each of Thyme and Parsley
  • 1 Smoked Turkey Leg
  • 3.5 Cups Chicken Broth
  • 3.5 Tablespoons Water


  1. Step One

    Place thyme and parsley in bottom of slow cooker, then peas, leek, celery, carrots on top.

  2. Step Two

    Pour liquid in, then put in turkey leg.

  3. Step Three

    Cook on low for 7 hours.

  4. Step Four

    Take out leg, take out bones and skin, then shred and put back in soup.

  5. Step Five

    Cook for 1 more hour, and serve.

    I couldn’t find smoked turkey so used a ham steak. The flavor was good, but it needed a lot more water/broth, or other liquid. I cooked it on low for 6-7 hours total. I added liquid as I used the leftovers, and whisked it in – that worked fine!!

    I just amde this for dinner tonight using a ham bone, carrots, onion and chicken broth. I used dried thyme leaves and dried parsley instead of fresh. This is the best split peas soup I have ever made.
