The biggest thing you will want to prevent is the meat from drying out. I would go ahead and shred it up when it is done and then put the meat and sauce in a zip lock bag until it is time to get ready for your party. If you want to serve from your cooker, put everything back in the slow-cooker and reheat on low or warm until heated through. Hope this helps and your party is fantastic!

Question – what would you suggest if I was making it ahead for a party….Should I just add the sauce heat and serve or drain the coke, add the sauce and let it soak until I serve a day or two later?? Please let me know!! Thanks.

Glad to hear it was a hit, Kristy. I think 1/2lb of meat per person should be plenty!

When I make this I use a 16oz bottle of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce (the BEST!). I cook the roast with ONLY the coke and onions, and pour out the coke about an hour before serving. I shred the roast then add the bbq sauce. Let crock for an hour or so…perfecto! I think it’s too runny w/o pouring the soda out.
