Tasty Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Pounds ground beef
  • 1 Pounds ground Italian sausage, spicy or mild
  • 1 Cups large onion, diced*
  • 4 Teaspoons 4 cloves garlic, minced*
  • 1 Tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 Tablespoons dried oregano
  • 15 Ounces canned, diced tomatoes
  • 12 Ounces tomato paste (2-6 oz. cans)
  • 60 Ounces tomato sauce (4-15 oz. cans or 2-28 oz. cans)
  • 12 Ounces red wine
  • Pinches Salt and pepper to taste*

Directions

  1. Step One

    Brown the hamburger and sausage.

  2. Step Two

    Break the meats up as small as possible.

  3. Step Three

    Add the onion, garlic and seasonings and continue to cook for 5 minutes.

  4. Step Four

    Add meat mixture, tomato sauce, and red wine to the slow cooker.

  5. Step Five

    Season with salt and pepper.

  6. Step Six

    Stir well.

  7. Step Seven

    Cook on low 8 hours, stirring occasionally.

    since we don’t drink a lot of red wine in our house I picked up one of those Bota Box Cabernet Sauv’s from the liquor store. The flavor of the sauce was great! It makes a ton and I have 3 32oz containers left in my freezer! That will come in handy for this fall. We eat a lot of spaghetti!

    Do you have a red wine that you would recommend for this? Burgundy? Pinot Noir?

    Just pour it into a Ziplock freezer bag and lay it out flat. That way you can stack it with other things in the freezer. And you’re good to go. Be sure to label the bag as to what it is with the date. Sometimes it’s obvious what it is, but if you have multiple things in the freezer that look the same it can get to be a guessing game trying to figure it out :) Glad you’re crockin’ with us girl!

    We just made this & it was great!! My husband was looking forward to it all day & he said it lived up to his expectations! Our 10 month old enjoyed it as well! Do you have any suggestions on how to freeze the extra sauce? It made a ton & I’ve never frozen sauce before so I am clueless! :)
