Hobo Hamburgers- great for the whole family, easy for mom and yummy for kids!

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Ground Beef
  • 1/2-1 Teaspoon Seasoned Salt
  • Dash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 4 Potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 6 Carrots, cut in chunks
  • 1 Large Onion, cut in rings

Directions

  1. Step One

Combine the first 3 ingredients in a bowl and mix well, I use my hands, and form into 4 hamburger patties.

  2. Step Two

Chop veggies and divide up onto 4 pieces of foil and then place the hamburger patty (raw) on top and close up the foil pouch.

  3. Step Three

4 pouches per amount listed in recipe. Place pouches in slow cooker (stacking is okay).

  4. Step Four

Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 4 hours, or until hamburger meat is cooked through.
Browning patties (just a few seconds on each side) in a skillet before is also an option.

I made this recipe for a crowd this weekend! Had to use several crockpots, but it was worth it! Everyone loved it! The kids preferred the hamburger patties on buns with the potatoes and veggies (I substituted broccoli for carrots) on the side. Adults ate just the way it came. Delicious and easy and my daughter loved helping me put it together.

We have been making hobo packs over the fire since I was a kid. It never even occurred to me that I could make them in the crock pot! So excited to try this it would certainly make one of my childhood favorites easier to have for dinner!:)

We tried these last night they were great! What a great way to cook burgers with veggies all at once. We even put some green peppers in with a couple of them. We did not do the onion because I forgot them but still turned out great!
    Thank you!

I am so amazed and wondering why I didn’t think of this on my own ???? This has turned out perfectly after a long day at the museum with the kids ! I made coleslaw last night and popped green beans and butter in a pot and set it in the fridge ready to cook when we got home. As soon as I got home I put the green beans on and toasted some bread and dinner was done in ten minutes !!!! The HOBO packets were already done when I got home ! Not overcooked and just perfect ! I prepared everything last night down to stacking them in the crock ! So all I had to do this morning was put the pot in the crock and put it on low… PERFECTION ! Now what to do tomorrow night ????? lol

This sounds good – just wanted to comment that your directions say to combine the first 4?? ingredients? That would put the potatoes IN the patty?

Maybe you only want the first 3 ingredients to make 4 patties, and let’s keep all the veggies beneath the patty.

Just a typo I’m sure, but so many beginning ‘chefs’ look to your delicious recipes, we don’t want to confuse and frustrate them just as they a beginning their crock adventures :)

Keep up the great site! Love to look thru your posts for new crockin’ dinner ideas.

Lori, chop up your veggies and place them on foil. Then put your patty on top of the the chopped veggies. Lastly, close the foil, covering your veggies and uncooked meat patty. You should make four foil packets with this recipe. Hope that’s clear!

Do the potatoes go into the burger or under?

No water for this one. Since the patties are on top of the foil packs, it will help drain the grease and keep them from over-cooking.

So no water in the crock?
