My kids and husband love home made mac-n-cheese with hamburger in it. Any suggestions on when to add the hamburger?

A lot depends on how hot your cooker cooks. If your slow cooker can switch to warm, that would be your best bet.

Also would love to know if there is a way to prolong the cooking time. Sometimes with egg/custard dishes I have seen people set them up to be on ‘warm’ overnight. Would the ‘warm’ setting work for this so that I could set it up in the morning and come home 8-10 hours later? Let me know if any of you crockers out there have tried that with this pasta dish!
Amy K
Has anyone ever tried this without cooking the noodles first? Any advice?
Ruth
I made this yesterday for my husband to take to Elijah men’s group…it was wonderful!

I have made this a few times over the holidays. I decided to change it a bit and add Velveeta’s new ques o cheese ….talk about YUMMY!!!! I one of the small logs of it…..they also make it in shredds. It also blended well with the cheddar …my family would love for me to make this as a meal instead of a side!! WELL DONE we love it!!

Delicious! My family loved this recipe and I loved how easy it is so make :) thank you!!
Kimberly
Absolutely LOVED this recipe! Very creamy and delicious. Most definitely a keeper!

I wouldn’t use anything less than a 5qt slow cooker…ideally a 6-7qt would be best. If you cut it in half then you could use a 5qt, easily, and crock for 3 hours on LOW. However, maybe you could make the full recipe then freeze your leftovers! It would be super easy to reheat in the crock on LOW for an hour or two.

Question: What size crock pot did you use and I’m thinking this is too much for us…if I cut the recipe in half would I cook for the same amount of time?
Jamie
Just made this for dinner! I added 4 oz Velveet Cheese, cut up into small cubes to melt easier. And my Family devoured it!

Thanks for your comment. Next time you make it, stir it a bit about halfway through the cooking time.

This was easy, the kids loved it, but i might have messed it up a bit. I, too, had the lumpy cheese problem mentioned before. I wisked the eggs, evaporated milk and milk together, poured over then put the cheese on top. I kinda squished it down in and just figured it would melt into a creamy cheese sauce. Some parts I’m guessing the cheese wasn’t evenly disbursed. It was still really yummy though, next time I’ll try mixing up better.

Looking forward to making this next weekend for kids birthday dinner…mac and cheese is their favorite and it is too hot to cook in oven. Will post results later..

Today is food shopping day, but want to get a meal in before I go, so I don’t have to come home empty car, put everything away and make dinner (being lazy today) The only cheese I have on hand is velveta. I am going to give it a try. Hopefully it will taste fine :)

This is my first day crockin’ with the girls. I just finished setting up two crocks. One with this mac and cheese (with organic noodles) and the other with your pineapple upside down cake dessert. The adults are going out to dinner and the kids are staying home with a sitter. I will post later how it all turned out. Thanks I even had everything on hand which made it easy.

Everyone loves this mac and cheese. Definetly a kids favorite!

I am always trying to find easy meals for Friday Night Dinner with my family. I work until 5pm and I am always trying to find new ideas that all 8 of us will eat and that can be ready to go when I get home is a challenge! I made this recipe and it was some of the best Mac & Cheese I have had! It made a ton and there were even leftovers to sent home with everyone. I coupled this with some grilled hot dogs and voila, dinner was a hit. I substitued light cheese, fat free milk and low fat evaporated milk, and you couldn’t tell the difference. This recipe is a keeper!

Yes, Jolie. Sounds like you crock cooks a little hot. Rather than going out and getting a new one, just don’t cook as long. Now that you know it cooks hot, you can just adjust all recipes. But if you REALLY want to go crock shoppin’, here’s a list of all the crocks we like best. They seem to cook evenly for us.

My kids LOVE Mac and Cheese so was excited to try this recipe. My kids were turned off by the cheese that clumped up. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? It cooked for 3 1/2 hrs while we were gone but I think my slow cooker gets too hot so perhaps it overcooked since it also burned.
Maybe I just need a now slow cooker :)

Making this now but I am also putting some hamburger in with it. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

I don’t like Mac and cheese, but I fixed this for my kids one night and they begged me to try it. Well I LOVED it. I couldn’t believe that I actually found a mac and cheese that I like!! Thanks so much. I am fixing this to go along with our Easter dinner this Sunday. I think it will be a big hit :)
Joni
Well I jut realized this recipe does have eggs in it. At the same time I realized I may need glasses. ;)
Will make this one next week! :)

I’ve been looking for a really good crock pot recipe for mac and cheese that includes eggs. Anyone have a good recipe?
lynne k.
I tweeked it a bit to make it spicy by adding Buffalo hot wing sauce cheddar.. Was spicy and bit hit at our BBQ….

YAY Carole! SO glad your mac-n-cheese “experts” liked it….they’re a picky group :)
And Bettye, I think you could get 10-12 servings out of it if you serve as a side. But as a meal, maybe more like 6-8 servings. It really depends on how many kids vs. adults you’re feeding and the portion size. But that gives you an idea.

Okay. I tried this recipe last night on 2 die hard Kraft Mac and Cheese addicts. They each had 3 helpings and took some home. I did substitute half and half for the milk because I did not feel like going to the store and instead of mild cheddar put in colby jack. Mine was done on low in 2hours but I think my crockpot may be a higher wattage. Thius recipe was my first to try and it was a huge hit5t5
Bettye E.
How many does this serve? I am having a BBQ……20 people…..would this be enough? Thanks

Sorry it didn’t work out for you, Leslie. Keep Crockin’!

I didn’t have luck with this dish. Maybe it’s because I’m new to using a crockpot. Guess I’ll stick to Kraft Mac n Cheese for now.
