Barbeque Chicken – easy slow cooked barbeque chicken recipe

  • 1 Package Chicken breasts (you could use any cut/assortment of chicken parts)
  • 1 Bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce (I use Kraft Original)
  • 1 Large sweet yellow onion

  1. Step One

Cut the onion into rings and line the bottom of the slow cooker.

  2. Step Two

Lay the chicken pieces over the onion and pour the sauce over the chicken.

  3. Step Three

Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.

  4. Step Four

I usually serve with baked beans and a salad or green veggie.

Made this tonight and it turned out great!! Tender and delicious and the onion was also perfectly cooked and made a great garnish. I used KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. Definitely a keeper!

@ Lisa…your crock might cook a little hot. You may just have to adjust your cooking times according to how hot your crock cooks. Some definitely cook A LOT hotter/faster than others. And you can start with frozen or thawed chicken. Just add about another hour to your cook time if you use frozen. Happy Crockin’, girl!

I’m trying this tonight, but not sure if the chicken is supposed to be thawed or frozen. The recipe I tried similar to this one came out a bit dry.

Loved mine!! Cooked it 8+ hours because of work. Thawed my chicken out & it was a bit runny so I put it 3-4 table spoons of flour. Little sweet w honey bbq, wouldnt use honey bbq again. Overall A+!

While looking in pantry for bbq sauce i found Archer Farms Mole Sauce and used it instead..keeping my fingers crossed.

I had good luck with this recipe!
I used Bulleye Original BBQ sauce. I’m not a fan of chicken breast, so I used thighs and drumsticks. 2 hours on high and two hours on low (weird time constraint). My chicken wasn’t dry at all! It even reheated nice and moist in the microwave as leftovers!

OH no, Dayna! Sorry your 1st one wasn’t all you had hoped. If you’re a newbie, I suggest you make the recipes under the Crockin’ recipe tab. We try to include our favorites and successes we’ve had there. And another tip…I like to add lots of spices like garlic, onion powder, thyme, paprika, Italian seasoning, etc to give my food some extra flavor. Crockin’ tends to pull some of the flavor out, so I always try to add some back in with lots and lots of seasonings. This recipe is just a very basic one.

Mine was anything but dry. There was so much liquid in the pot, most of the BBQ sauce came off the chicken. This was my very first crock pot recipe and it was just ok. Certainly not spectacular, and I don’t think I’ll be making this again :-(

OH NO, Fred! Sorry your recipe flopped :( That stinks!! Did you throw in some bloody mary mix with the chicken??? That might the problem, since the recipe doesn’t call for it. Hope you don’t give-up on crockin’…it ROCKS!

  11. Fred B.

A waste of good chicken (and bloody mary mix, too!). What a disappointment! My wife could only handle a few bites and left it for our dog (who DID eat it). This was the first Crokin’ Girls recipe I’ve tried. I’ll give you another chance, but this one was mediocre (at best).

I made this last night and mine was very dry. I had to leave mine in for 8 hours because I was working, so maybe that’s the reason.

Very simple & easy to do. My Husband love it! Thanks

  14. Kristin P.

I didn’t use the onion and I used Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce and my family loved this. They ate it all!

I agree that Head Country is the best. I have found it at Walmart and Braums.
