Bacon-Wrapped Apple BBQ Chicken – A tasty recipe for the whole family!

Ingredients

  • 3-4 Chicken Breasts
  • 1/2 Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 1-2 Apples, peeled and grated
  • 1 Whole Lemon, juiced
  • 6-8 Slices of Bacon

Directions

  1. Step One

    In small bowl, combine BBQ sauce with grated apple and lemon juice.

  2. Step Two

    Wrap 2 pieces of bacon around each chicken breast.

  3. Step Three

    Place chicken breasts in base of slow cooker, pour BBQ/apple mixture over the chicken.

  4. Step Four

    Set to low and cook for 8 hours.

    I have now made around 8 recipes from your site. I think this may be my fave!! I used a 1/2 cup of applesauce instead of apples and served over brown rice. Kids loved it and ate it right up. Only down side is the fam liked it so much that there were not any leftovers. :-)

    Oh and I did cook the bacon a little before wrapping chicken.

    Raven, the general rule of thumb is to add an hour for frozen chicken. If you cook it on high, you cut the time in half. I have not tried this recipe on high or with frozen chicken but it should work fine.

    We almost always serve a salad with dinner along with whatever veggies we have on hand. You could also serve this along with some rice or noodles. I’m getting hungry!

    Super great!!! I swapped out the apples for applesauce as suggested. You either love or hate the bacon around the chicken. My daughter was “YUCK” and pulled the bacon off her chicken, but rest of the family loved the bacon. I also slightly precooked the bacon before wrapping the chicken.

    Sorry about that Laura and Shannon. Looks like a couple of the directions got switched. Wrap the chicken with bacon first and then place in you cooker. You will then pour the sauce over your meat. Sorry for the confusion.

    Shannon, I am confused as well. Are you supposed to wrap the chicken first and then pour the sauce mixture over, or are you supposed to add some as a middle layer. Unclear in the recipe.

    My family really enjoyed this dish! I used the leftovers for a chicken salad… Romaine lettuce, bacon bits, salad toppings, Parmesan cheese, and ranch. It was delicious.

    We loved this dish. Instead of grating the apples I just used applesauce (I was lazy that day, lol). Worked out great though, everyone in the house loved it.

    Great taste РI pur̩ed the apples in a blender after trying to grate them ( lack of patience and time in the morning :) ). The end result was good. I think next time I will try the apple juice recommendation as the chicken was a little dry. Thank you!

    This is absolutely delicious. I used one apple and some apple juice. I also cooked the bacon slightly before wrapping it around the chicken breasts. The chicken was so moist and tender some of it was falling apart when I tried to take it out of the cooker. Thanks for such a wonderful, easy recipe.

    Sorry about that Heather. I hate it when a recipe works out like I had hoped. If you ever decide to do it again, you might try to cook the bacon halfway before wrapping the chicken…Keep Crockin’!

    The apple and BBQ sauce was a great combination for a future sauce. Chicken was dry, and bacon wasn’t cooked thoroughly, not an impressive dish for this family….bummer!

    I made this last week! It’s awesome! Next time will use more apples! The kids really like that! First night, served as is out of crock with BBQ beans and mac & cheese. Left over night… made COWBOY WRAPS out of it. Made more crispy bacon, and wrapped the shredded chicken with bacon and cheddar cheese in a whole wheat tortilla. WE ALL DEVOURED IT! Think this is how we’ll do it from now on!

    Does the bacon get crisp or is is mushy? Should I cook the bacon first?

    You don’t need to cook either, but it does seem to need some added liquid for it not to be dry. Instead of using grated apples, I just use 1 c. of apple juice.
