This was very good! I accidentally used the whole package of Italian dressing mix, but I think that worked out better. I also substituted chicken broth for the wine, and next time I would probably add the whole 8oz tub of cream cheese, as I would have liked more of that flavor in the recipe. Very delicious though!

Question, for the can of cream of mushroom soup, should a large can or small (10.5 oz) can be used? Thanks!

  10. Janet

I used 1 C of chicken broth instead of 1/2 C of wine. i do not like the taste of cvooking with wine. Since some people said it was too thick with 1/2 C, I used 1 C of chicken broth. But I thought it was too thin, so the next time, i will use 1/2 C. Also i will use the entire tub of the cream cheese instead of 1/2 because it made such a good flavor, and maybe will thicken the sauce a bit. I loved the flavor of this and so did my husband.

There is not one Crockin Girls recipe that I have made and the family DID NOT like. But they especially love the Angel Chicken. Being a vegetarian, it’s so easy for me to cook meat for the family right in the crockpots. It is important that they like it because I won’t taste it. This meal is always asked for when asking, “what do you want for dinner?”

I made this the other night and my husband and I loved it. I did make a few substitutions. I used chicken broth instead of wine, a whole pkg of zesty Italian seasoning, and I used 8 oz of the cream cheese with onions and chives. I noticed several ppl said it was dry the next day. I didn’t have this problem. I separated the sauce and chicken. Then as we put it on our plates we mixed the noodles and sauce together. This way the noodles didn’t absorb the sauce and make it dry.

This was good but it needed more spices. I think I may have used more chicken than it called for so I might should have doubled the cheese, italian seasonings, etc. Also I think I am going to add onions and peppers to it next time. It was tasty we just like things a little spicier.

I made it with broccoli covered in evoo, salt and pepper (and baked for 15 mins at 325). I also served with Hawaiian sweet rolls.Huge thumbs up and very easy to make.

  23. Sandra

This is awesome! I did use some of the review suggestions and I doubled the liquids (except butter) and used an entire pkg of dry Italian dressing mix. I also used one Cream of Mushroom and one Golden Mushroom soup. I used chicken broth because I was out of wine and no where to buy it at 8:30 a.m. I was hoping to have enough to freeze but after sending some home with my daughter and her family, and making one serving for hubby’s lunch tomorrow, not much is left to freeze. I will definitely make this again.

I have made this dish twice now. The first time I couldn’t find the right flavor cream cheese so I made a lot of substitutions:
    Chicken broth = White Wine
Italian Cream Cheese = Chive and Onion Cream Cheese
Dry Onion soup = Dry Italian Dressing
Cream of Chicken = Cream of Mushroom

and it came out bland and dry. Tonight the only substitution I made was Ginger Ale instead of White Wine, (I don’t like the flavor of the wine) and it came out great! It had a wonderful kick without being overpowering. This time I doubled all the liquids (except the butter) and used 4 chicken breasts, and 2/3 of a box of small penne. The sauce stayed creamy and my husband loved it! Thanks!

I changed the wine to chicken broth and put in a full cup instead of half so the coating would not be to thick. The other thing I did was put a whole packet of the seasoning. I made this for dinner the other night but I made some substitutions. I didn’t have any white wine so I used beer instead (I only had Miller Genuine Draft). I also added some garlic powder. It came out REALLY good. I’m so glad I didn’t skip the beer. It made the sauce! I thought it was almost perfect but my husband said it needed a bit more salt. So, I’ll add a bit more salt and pepper next time but this is definitely a keeper!

I actually use a version of this recipe that I found a few year’s ago from the local newspaper’s Christmas cooking contest. The recipe uses Golden Mushroom soup instead of the Cream of Mushroom soup. I have only used the regular cream cheese, but I am sure the chives and onions makes it even better. The chicken just falls apart and the sauce really makes the dish. I can’t seem to put enough chicken into the pot. My family really eats it up.

Made this dish last night. It’s almost identical to my Creamy Italian Chicken recipe. I used a whole can of chicken broth instead of wine, as well as the whole pkg of Italian Seasoning Mix and cream cheese. I also threw in a large dash of black pepper and a splash of cayenne. It was good, but slightly bland. Not sure if that was due to the broth instead of wine. Keeping the recipe though!

Family loved this! I doubled the recipe and added 2 full pkts of seasoning. I also added a large bag of fresh chopped kale near the end. We skipped the wine too. Will definitely make again.

This was a terrific base recipe for me to experiment with! Started off by doubling the recipe and used cream of chicken in lieu of mushroom. Also used 3 giant chicken breasts, which was more than enough with even double the sauce, especially after shredding the chicken. Although it became super thick when I shredded the chicken, so thinned it out with more wine and a little milk. Added copious amounts of cayenne pepper, blackening seasoning, and some crushed red pepper flakes so it had an amazing but not overpowering/regretful “kick.” I also added some gorgonzola cheese and fresh broccoli. The sauce was very tasty to begin with and I know will be perfect for when there are sensitive kiddo tastebuds in the future, but the hubby and I wanted something a little bit spicy/tangy tonight and after all my tweaks, it was phenomenal! Tomorrow night will be buffalo chicken in the crock. Sooo happy to have stumbled upon ya’lls website from Pinterest!

OH my, Charles! I don’t think we want to know :/ J/K You can make it a little healthier by using the healthy request soup with less fat and sodium and a low carb pasta. Michelle…the cream cheese really makes it :/ Maybe you could sub sour cream instead, but you’ve got to get the onion and chive flavor in there. Either with the real thing or the powdered version.
And Holly…if you make this with rotisserie chicken it’s even easier. You’re basically just warming everything together, since your chicken is already cooked. I would say just about 2 hours on low or until your cream cheese is all melted and well blended with everything else. Happy Crockin’, Y’all!

  119. Michelle

Has anyone tried this without the cream cheese? My fiance won’t eat anything with cream cheese. Hoping this will still be as good without it.

I read all of the reviews and tweaked the recipe a bit (added fresh onion and garlic and used chicken stock instead of the wine) and I thought it turned out really well! I added green beans at the end — they were going to be a side dish, but they mixed into the meal really well on my plate, so I ate it all together. The picky 4-year old also ate everything. As many others have said, this was an AWESOME recipe. I have to admit, I wasn’t sold on it when it very first came out of the crock pot – it didn’t really look like much and I was afraid it wasn’t going to satisfy my picky family. Boy was I wrong. My 2 year old ate the entire plate and asked for more, my husband barely got one bite in and was raving; he had 2 servings and asked for the left overs for his lunch! I’m adding this SUPER easy, SUPER delicious recipe to the rotation, FOR SURE.
Also, like others, I modified a touch – almost exactly like BarbaraAnn, I used 3 very large, frozen breasts, and doubled the sauce recipe for extra creamy, super tasty sauce. My cooker cooks very hot, so I put it on low all day, bumping it to high for the last 30-45 minutes while I prepared the pasta and fresh, homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert. It worked out perfectly. I can see why this is a perfect Monday meal – easy, tasty, great for left-overs, and a crowd favorite! Thanks to the Crockin Community (and the Girls, of course) for such a great suggestion.

Wow. OH WOW this was good. 3 out of 4 family members liked it better than my homemade-on-the-stove alfredo sauce (which is one of my most requested meals). This is a new recipe that will soon become an old recipe cuz we’ll eat it so much. LOVED it. Note: I used a full 8oz of the crm chs w/ onion & chives, and the entire pkt of italian seasoning, and only 3 humongous chicken breasts (where I get them, they are double the size of regular breasts you get in the store) and they were frozen when I put them in. I cooked on low for 7 hrs and there were still little bits of crm chs that didn’t “melt” into the sauce, so I cooked on high for an additional hr. Sauce is very thin in the cp, BUT DON’T LET THAT FOOL YOU. When put over the pasta, it had so much flavor you don’t need/want it thick. Next time I’ll double the sauce, cuz it was soooo good you almost want to drink it. Ok, seriously, we had left over pasta and little sauce left, and if you want left overs, double the sauce. I’m thinking this sauce will also “transfer” to the stovetop (sauce only of course), to use over grilled chicken.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was delicious. Entire family enjoyed it; I used chicken breast and boneless chicken thighs. The breast overcooked a little but it was ok as I’m the only one that eats breast. I think I need a newer crock pot with the timer on it. Although, I used the light cream cheese and 2% milk to make the cream of mushroom soup. It was still a little heavy. Although, we didn’t mind as it was a veg out day.

Oh no, Kelly! You might have overcooked your chicken. Like all appliances, slow cookers all cook a little differently. You might have one that cooks hot if it is fairly new (purchased in the last 5 years or so). Just adjust the cooking time and it should be better next time. Sorry girl…hate it when a recipe doesn’t turn out. But you can get chicken super moist in the crock if it doesn’t cook too long. Better crockin’ luck next time! :)

    Amy,
Are you asking for spices to use if you don’t specifically have Italian seasoning? Try this:
    3 tablespoons dried basil
    3 tablespoons dried oregano
    3 tablespoons dried parsley
    1 tablespoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1 teaspoon dried thyme
    1 teaspoon dried rosemary
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Grind all the spices together in a spice grinder or use the back of your spoon and crush in a bowl. Hope this has helped!
