I have a soup recipe with barley that I want to try in the slow cooker. The original recipe says to bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour. Based on this chart, I would need to cook it on low for 8-10 hours. Does this sound right? My only concern is making sure the barley cooks properly. Do you think it will work to put the barley in uncooked?

You can definitely throw in some uncooked barley. 8-10 hours may be on the long side, especially if your crock cooks hot. I’m thinking 6-8 hours would be just right.
