5k Runnin’ Season
Since the first Saturday in September I have run a 5K every Weekend, and I am signed up to do another this week (September 22). I have always love to run… starting in Jr. High, my love for Cross Country began and I ran competitively into High School. After you are no longer in “school sports” you have to find other ways to exercise and challenge yourself so I have always liked doing 5Ks. Stanton (my husband) was also a runner and so this is something we like to do together- although I can’t keep up with him, lol!
After I had Spencer I started training when he was about 8 months old to run a 1/2 marathon. I have always only ran the 5Ks which are 3.1 miles, and I had finished one 10K (just over 6 miles) but when he was almost 11 months old (May 2010) I ran my first 1/2 Marathon (13.1 miles). I would LOVE to be able to train for another one, but with 2 kiddos and now having a crazy schedule to top things off, it is something that I have on the back burner. It takes a lot of time and dedication to train for one but it is definitely on my bucket list!
At the beginning of August it dawned on me that my “baby” Stella was 15 months old, and I was no where NEAR being in shape the way I was when her brother was her age… soooooo I started pounding the pavement. I try to run at least 3 miles, about 5 days a week and then sign up for local 5Ks on Saturdays since there seems to be one every week this time of year. My times have been improving each week and I am trying to push myself so that when I want to train for a longer race, I will be prepared.
September 1st I ran in the Hamilton, Dove Festival Run… Boy was it hot, and running the last part of the run UPHILL sure wore me out LOL! I ran this one in 27:??ish…
September 8th I ran in the Stephenville, Run for Recovery… it was cool and on a nice trail and made for a pretty pleasant run! I ran this one in 24:??ish…
September 15th I ran in the Brownwood, Reunion Run… another cool morning, and Stanton ran too, so I was trying to chase him :) I ran this one in 23:?? or something…
If you have ever wanted to try out a 5K run to get in shape, do something with a family member/friend, support a cause, or just to say you got off the couch on Saturday morning, I really encourage you to try one out! They are a lot of fun :) You don’t have to necessarily RUN them either many people walk them to support a cause and get a fun T-Shirt!
Happy Runnin’ Y’all!
