Organization Station

By

I placed this handy Organization Station in my entry way. It has a family calendar that shows us the current week, grocery list, to-do list, notes, birthdays, and a bible verse. It also has a small bulletin board and a bird cage that holds all of the pens, erasers and chalk for the calendar. The white on the calendar is “permanent” (white paint pen and I also used a white-out pen for some of it!) for the color, I used the Bistro Board Chalk Pens that come off with a damp paper towel.  For the frame, I used some stain I already had at home, and covered the bulletin board with a scrap of fabric (stapled to cork) after rubbing the frame with some black paint on a rag then sanding edges a bit. I found all of the materials at Hobby Lobby.

Materials & Prices:

  • Large chalk board- 12.99*
  • Small cork board- 5.99*
  • Chalk eraser set- 1.99*
  • Chalk pens- 5.00* (optional because the chalk set above came with white and colored chalk)
  • Bird cage- 15.00* (optional, it would also be easy to re-purpose an old basket or use a nearby drawer)

*These are the full item prices.

I did this station for under $40 thanks to a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby, and caught a  few other things on sale. I am hoping that it will take some stress out of our lives and turn out to be more than worth the money!

Plans for station:

I am hoping to follow through with my initial plan to sit down each Sunday and plan out our menu, talk about what is going on during each other’s weeks, and talk about the weekly bible verse with the kids. I found a website that teaches kids a bible verse for each letter of the alphabet and I plan to coordinate this with working with Spencer on his alphabet. He has known his letters and sounds since about 18 months- 2 years old, but we are going to start working on writing them and learning what words start with them. I will try and do a letter every 2 weeks (maybe a little more frequently) and then we will have covered the whole alphabet in a year. In that 2 weeks we will also memorize the bible verse that coordinates. For example, “A” is “As for me and my house we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15.
