Smells of Summertime
I don’t know about y’all, but summertime is my favorite time of the year. It just brings a smile to my face. I love all of the smells of summer, but my absolute favorite smell of summertime is sunscreen on my babies.
I pretty much grew up on the boat during the summer. As soon as school was out, we would load up the RV and head to the lake. My Nanee and Pop would be right behind us in their motor home as well. We would spend weeks at a time boating, tubing, skiing, swimming, and always eating great food. My Nanee rarely went out on the boat with us, but she was always waiting with a smile on her face and a spread of food for us to eat so we could have our tummies full and hit the lake again. She loved that she could provide a meal that everyone enjoyed. She always had something for everyone. Sweet pickles for my sister and dill for my brother, a homegrown tomato sliced up for my Pop, cucumbers and onion for my mom and aunt and dessert (my absolute favorite) was always awaiting. We would go all day and then play games late into the night while sitting on the patio with the smell of charcoal in the air.
With summertime approaching, and my kids getting a little bigger, I want those experiences for them. I want them to have the family memories I have. I want them to experience the lifelong fun of summertime.
So today we played outside! The butterflies are flying everywhere and it was so fun to watch Gage catch them. Gracie loves to swing, and I pushed her and pushed her…and pushed her. They picked flowers for me, and watched different bugs crawl by. We played in the sand box, and on their swing set. We ate snow cones, and blew bubbles. It was a day full of fun and laughter and I just soak it up when I can really “be” with my kids. Even though they both had a bath before bed, as I tucked them into bed I could smell sunscreen on both of them. What a perfect way to end a beautiful sunny day! -Nicole
